Colors of 2023
Every October Benjamin Moore releases their Color of the Year, and every year we make a prediction on where we feel color trends are headed. We also like to delve into the 'why' we feel certain colors and pallets will be popular.
Our contenders for Benjamin Moore's Color of the Year all fit within a pallet that answers the craving for personal expression in the home. Broadly speaking, 2022's colors reflected a strong need for nature and the outdoors brought into the home with lots of greens and floral tones. This year we expect more of a bold pallet coming away from neutrals / nature and being more expressive:
To explain, "Bed of Ferns" is certainly a green that evokes the natural environment, and would certainly be at home in the colors of 2022, however it is here in our selection as a neutral with personality. Calming, inoffensive and restrained, but still very unique in an otherwise desaturated space.
"Grappa" is a juicy, moody shade of purple that is provocative while still relaxed enough to be comfortable. We like this shade for a space that encourages relaxed luxury or indulgence, like a bar, lounge or library.
A close runner-up for our prediction for Color of the Year is "Dash of Curry". Yellows in general are a very confident color family that tend to be reserved for playful spaces like kids rooms, but are extremely powerful when used as an accent or pop of excitement when you least expect it. Like our other predictions for 2023, this yellow is muted and easy on the eye while very characterful.
And our prediction for Benjamin-Moore's Color of the Year is:
"Patina" is a fun, earthy shade of peach that makes a great backdrop for a wide array of furniture and accessories. Warm neutrals and muted masonry tones like ivory, terracotta, and lime-washed plaster will be very at home with this color, while also allowing the greens of potted plants to contrast vibrantly against it. It's got the vintage charm that will work well with midcentury furniture in walnut and cherry, as well as brass accessories.
